Utah State Men's Basketball Add Comment Mar 09, 2011
Utah State Mens Basketball is currently ranked #23 in the nation and has a 28-3 record, so why are they remaining so focused on winning WAC Basketball Tournament? Because they have seen what an early exit from the conference tournament can do to the NCAA Tournament hopes of mid-major schools.
In 2004 Utah State was supposed to be a lock for the NCAA Tournament as well before playing in the Big West Conference Tournament. They were 25-2 before being upset by Cal State Northridge. When selection Sunday arrived Utah State learned what it was like to have their bubble burst; as they were not selected as a member of the 64 team field.
This Utah State team should be a lock to enter the tournament with a slightly expanded field, the 19th ranked RPI in the country, and a top 25 ranking; but past memories of being left home are hard to forget.
