WESTMINSTER COLLEGE - Men's Basketball, Griffins Add Two More Add Comment    Jun 03, 2010

SALT LAKE CITY The Westminster mens basketball team has added two more players for the 2010-11 season head coach Tommy Connor announced this afternoon.  Josh Schouman and Adam Egan each signed a Frontier Conference letter of intent to join the Griffins for next season.

Schouman comes to Westminster after taking a year away from basketball to play tennis at Montana State-Billings.  He spent two seasons at Big Bend Community College prior to last season where he averaged 11.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.  Schouman averaged 2.2 makes from beyond the arc per game and shot 38% from that distance.  He scored a career high 30 points against Grays Harbor on a night that he went 8-of-12 from beyond the arc.  A graduate of Mountain View High School in Meridian, Idaho, Schouman will have two years of eligibility at Westminster.

"Josh took a year off from basketball to honor a commitment he made in high school, Connor said of his year playing tennis.  He has two years remaining to play for us and we will take advantage of that time. Josh is very skilled and versatile and has a chance to be one of the best shooters to play for Westminster. We are excited that he is part of our program."

"Timing is everything in life. Had Josh decided to play basketball last year we would not have been able to take him, assistant coach Adam Hiatt added. He is a perfect fit for our system. He can stretch the floor with his shooting ability and beat guys off the bounce that defend him too close. We expect him to be a major asset to our team."

Egan will join the Griffins after prepping at Olympus High School in Salt Lake City.  During his senior season, Egan led the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists while shooting 43.5% from 3-point territory.  His team finished third in the state tournament and he was named Third Team All-State.  Following high school, Egan served a two-year LDS church mission in Kentucky and Indiana.

"Adam was a very nice high school player before his mission, Connor said.  He had opportunities to play at other schools, but ultimately chose us because of the education he would receive here. Adam is a good addition to our program."

The Westminster mens basketball team went 27-6 during the 2009-10 season and they advanced to the second round of the NAIA National Championships. They won the Frontier Conference regular season and tournament championships for a second consecutive season and earned the No. 4 overall seed at the national tournament.
