Women's Soccer Releases 2010 Schedule Add Comment    Aug 06, 2010

CEDAR CITY, Utah - July 2, 2010 - SUU women's soccer is set to begin the 2010 campaign with a exhibition opener against UNLV on Saturday, August 14 at the Thunderbird Soccer Pitch.  The T-Birds will then embark on a 17-game slate with eight home games and nine away games, opening the regular season at Utah Valley on Friday, August 20.

"This schedule is going provide a great balance of home and away games," head coach Brian Stock said.  "This is also a schedule that will give us some great experience leading into our Summit League contests and into the conference tournament."

SUU will host its regular season home opener against Embry-Riddle, a team that Southern Utah posted a 1-0 victory against during the 2007 season, on Wednesday, August 25 at 4:00 p.m.  The T-Birds will then host first-time foe William Penn on Saturday, August 28.

Following  a weekend off, Southern Utah will begin a four-game road stretch with non-conference games against Northern Colorado, Idaho State, Northern Arizona and Air Force.

The Thunderbirds return to Cedar City for a rematch with the Utah Valley Wolverines on Saturday, September 25 before heading back out on the road to open Summit League play at IUPUI and Western Illinois.

The home contest against UMKC on Saturday, October 9 will mark the fourth annual Breast Cancer Awareness match.  The Thunderbirds have raised more than $5,000 over the past three years towards breast cancer research, benefiting both local and national organizations.

Back-to-back home games against South Dakota State (0ct. 14) and North Dakota State (Oct. 16) will continue the Summit League season for the Thunderbirds the very next weekend.  Southern Utah will mark its tenth year of women's soccer against the Bison on October 16 as the team will incorporate a ten-year anniversary celebration during the weekend, recognizing alumni and others that have helped to build a successful program.

Games against Oral Roberts and Centenary will mark the final regular season road games for SUU and will also mark the final Summit League contest between Centenary and Southern Utah as the Ladies depart the conference after the 2010 season.

Home games against Oakland (Oct. 28) and IPFW (Oct. 30) will wrap up the regular season for the Thunderbirds and could mean a berth into the Summit League tournament during the first weekend of November.
