SAINT GEORGE, UT-Kylee Higgins (Layton. UT/Layton High School) RBI single in the eighth inning gave the Dixie State College softball team a 6-5 come from behind victory over Notre Dame de Namur. The win gave the Red Storm a four game opening weekend sweep of the Argonauts at Karl Brooks Field.

Trailing 5-2 in the top of the fifth inning, Kourtnie Schlachter homered and Cassie Merrill had a 2RBI double in a five hit inning to tie the game at 5.

Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) pitched four strong innings in relief of starter Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) to get the win. Folta allowed only two hits and struck out six Argonaut batters to improve to 3-2.

Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School) continued her torrid pace with two more hits, one of those a solo home run to lead off the game. Merrill and Schlacter also had two hits apiece.

In the first game it was all the Red Storm (6-3, 4-0 PWC). In a run-rule shortened game, DSC prevailed 11-3.

Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) led DSC going 3-3 in the game. She hit a two run home run in the first inning and had five RBI. Brittnie Miller (Moab. UT/Grand High School) and Breanna Egge (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial High School) also had home runs for the Red Storm, giving them 16 HRs in just nine games.

Miller improved to 3-1 going the distance and struck out three batters.

The Red Storm travel this weekend to Grand Canyon for a PacWest doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
