SALT LAKE CITY The Westminster mens basketball team announced today that two more student-athletes have signed a Frontier Conference letter of intent to join the Griffins for the 2010-11 season.  AJ Reilly and Michael Salazar will each come to Westminster to play basketball Westminster head coach Tommy Connor said on Wednesday. 

Reilly will join the Griffins as a junior after spending two seasons at BYU-Hawaii.  During his time there, Reilly helped the team reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA D2 National Championship Tournament each season.  He averaged 11.4 points, three rebounds, and 2.3 assist per game while shooting 52.4% from the field and 49% from beyond the arc.  Reilly started his collegiate career as a redshirt on both the football and basketball team at the University of Utah.  His senior season at Valley Center High School in San Diego, California, he finished third in the state of California in scoring at 29.5 points per game. 

"AJ is a tremendous recruit for our program. Having lost three outstanding guards to graduation, we needed to bring in an immediate impact player, Connor said.  Fortunately for us, AJ had exceeded a credit limit at BYU-Hawaii and was in a position to transfer. He is a terrific talent and will be expected to play at a high level for us each night. 

Salazar comes to Westminster after prepping at Springville High School in Springville, Utah.  During his senior season, Salazar averaged 18.6 points per game while collecting 3.4 steals and 9.4 assists per contest.  The six-foot point guard averaged 3.2 makes from 3-point territory.  Salazar was twice named All-Region and was All-State and a McDonalds All-American following his senior campaign.  He is currently serving a 2-year LDS Church mission in Houston, Texas.

Before his mission he was one of the premier guards in the state while at Springville High School, assistant coach Adam Hiatt stated.  He is a perfect fit for Westminster, in the sense that he has a tremendous feel for the game, is a terrific passer and outside shooter, and has an engaging personality. With continued work ethic and patience, Michael will have an outstanding four-year career as a Griffin." 

The Westminster mens basketball team went 27-6 during the 2009-10 season and they advanced to the second round of the NAIA National Championships. They won the Frontier Conference regular season and tournament championships for a second consecutive season and earned the No. 4 overall seed at the national tournament.
