Utah Utes Off to 4-0 Start Heading Into The Bye Week. Add Comment Sep 26, 2010
Salt Lake City, UT- The University of Utah Played host to San Jose State on Saturday in Rice-Eccles Stadium in a game that everyone knew Utah would walk out with another win. The game wasnt televised so if you havent been able to see any of the blooper real, wait I mean, highlight reel, sorryNot quite sure what I was thinking, then hit up a local news site for the video (I know KSL has a decent video). The Utes showed absolutely no mercy to the poor little Spartans as Im sure they still have no idea what hit them. With a final score of 56-3 Utah has found itself 4-0 going into the bye week.
Now Im the type of person that likes to pick on the negatives in games like yesterdays, or against powerhouse teams like UNLV and New Mexico, so I will begin there. The biggest negative I could think of was turnovers. Now I know if you checked the box score, Utah didnt turn the ball overbut either did San Jose State. Utah has coughed the ball up way more than I would like in the past games, this week not only did Utah not lose a fumble, they didnt have a fumble to lose. Very impressive! Ball Security was one of the main things I watched for while attending the game and there was a noticeable difference. Back to the negative aspect of this conversation, and Im struggling trying to find one. Basically what I wanted to see were some takeaways in Saturdays game and there were none.
Ok ok, Im done being negative Nancy, In all honesty it is extremely difficult to find anything wrong with the game play. Defense was stellar, offense looked fine, special teams were great. Shaky may not have returned a punt for a touchdown, but his presence may deserve some credit for the blocked punt and the very low punt that was booted into the back of an innocent bystander, that could not have bounced any better for the Utes to scoop and return 10 yards for the score. Utah did not play down to the level of their opponents, and have yet to do so really this entire season, something that had plagued the Utes in the past. If the Utes can continue this momentum they should be firing on all cylinders come the tougher stretch of the schedule.
Other notable accomplishments, our starting O-line has yet to give up a sack, in fact, Jordan Wynn didnt as much get breathed on. 1 penalty the entire game1!!! And it was a 5 yarder, just saying. Oh and as far as injuries go, we got players back as opposed to losing them. If ya didnt notice the monster on the D-line that wears number 90I expect a lot more pressure on opposing quarterbacks which in turn should mean turnovers! As for the next game, we are going to have to wait a bit, cause this Saturday is the bye week, then its off to Iowa State. GO UTES! Oh and BYU lost again...
