Men's Basketball Awarded Summit League Team Academic Achievement Award Add Comment Aug 06, 2010
CEDAR CITY, Utah - July 8 - SUU men's basketball has been awarded the Summit League Academic Achievement Award after carrying the best team GPA among men's basketball squads in the conference last year. The Thunderbirds finished last season with a cumulative average just over a 3.0 to earn the award.
"I'm extremely proud of our men's basketball program, both coaches and players, for having made such a commitment to academics," SUU athletic director Ken Beazer said. "The team is definitely moving in the right direction when it comes to the classroom."
The team was led by Brian Cameron with a GPA close to 3.85 and was followed by Jake Nielson (3.466) and Davis Baker (3.449) as the top scholars. The men's basketball was also a key contributor to Southern Utah finishing second in the Summit League tabulating cumulative GPA's among all sports (3.185).
