SALT LAKE CITY The Westminster womens soccer team has signed three student-athletes from the state of Utah to a Frontier Conference letter of intent head coach Tony LeBlanc announced this afternoon.  Jessica Harris, Claire Huntsberger, and Sadie Young all signed to join the Griffins for the 2010 season bringing the total of new recruits for next season to eight.

Harris will come to Westminster from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah where she helped her team to a 17-3 record as a senior and a second place finish at the state tournament.  The 5-8 forward scored two goals during her senior season and was part of three region championship teams.  Harris is also on the Honor Roll at Davis.

Jessica is a strong technical player that should be able to provide more depth for us up top this coming season, LeBlanc commented.  She is patient, crafty, and sees the field of play very well.  We are excited to bring her in as she also has great size and speed and should be able to help our attack.

Huntsberger joins the Griffins from Skyline High School in Salt Lake City.  During her senior season, the 5-5 defender scored two goals for a team that went 12-4-1 and won a region championship.  Huntsberger was named Second Team All-State as a senior and was twice named an All-Region performer.

"We are extremely pleased to sign Claire as apart of our 2010 class, LeBlanc said.  She is a tremendous defender both at 1v1 and at reading the game in the back to ensure the defense is well organized.  Clair will add more depth to our defense and bring with her a tough physical mentality.  She is also very fast and relentless, which should give opposing forwards a lot of trouble.  Clair is a great kid and we are excited to bring her to Westminster College."

Young will become a Griffin after prepping at Judge Memorial Catholic School in Salt Lake City.  The 5-3 defender scored four goals during her prep career and two as a senior.  She helped her team to a 15-4 record and a trip to the state semi-finals as a senior.  Young was named Best Defensive Player and is on the Honor Roll.

Sadie is a very sound and skillful defender with great decision making ability when the ball is at her feet, LeBlanc stated.  She will add more depth for us at the defender position and is versatile enough to play in the midfield as well.  She has a great attitude and we are very excited to bring Sadie to Westminster next year.

The third season of womens soccer at Westminster saw the Griffins advance to the championship game of the Frontier Conference Tournament. Although they dropped a 5-0 decision to Carroll College in that championship game, the Griffins completed the season at 9-10-1 overall with a 4-2-1 mark at Dumke Field.
